"What's Your Favorite Thing About Amalfi Coast's Quaint Village of Positano?"

"Positano? Where's Positano? Mexico?"
I love this line. It's from the movie "Only You."
Actor Fisher Stevens asks that question to his credit
card help desk as he's trying to track down his runaway
wife.
The irony of that question is that it seems to be
a complete mystery to some. Most have no idea what or where Positano is. However, those who have heard of it, well they just light up when you say the word. Brightly.
The reason is simple. Let me tell you about this village!
Romance. Intrigue. Magical. Historical. Fairy-tale. Adventure.
Just a few adjectives to describe some of the more prominent
feelings this tiny sea-side, fashionable village evokes.
Here, take a look and see why...

Truth is, everyone has a different level of experience
regarding this captivating town. So what I'd like to do is give you a
clear picture of the town's charm and features.
I will tell you about the hotel accomodations , as well as Villa's both for rent or ownership.
I'll talk about the most romantic restaurants, and clue
you in on a few you should avoid at all costs.
I will also tell you about all the fun things to do. Just click on this link - www.exploring-the-amalfi-coast.com/Positano-activities.html like Boat rentals, tour guides, excursions, weddings, nightlife even some killer reference materials you'll want to check out.
But first, let's start at the top.
Since that's where you're going to arrive anyway.
As I mentioned, it clings for its life, to the cliffs
leading rapidly down to the small beach-side at the base
of the town. You enter the town from the top.
By the way, in case you miss my other 500 references to this
you will need a good pair of walking shoes. Besides the
breathtaking, romantic scenery Positano is afforded by its
cliff-side positioning, it also offers plenty of staircases!
I will also tell you about the fabulous places to eat. Click on my link - www.exploring-the-amalfi-coast.com/positano-restaurants.html and cafes in Positano! So sit back and enjoy!
Protected from the Northern winds by the Lattari Mountains, Positano has a mild and dry climate. The structure of the town is very original, its buildings cling, in tiers to the rock face. The small houses, all huddling on top of each other, so characteristic of Positano, form the subject of endless photos. The vibrant colors; the white of the buildings, forming a perfect canvas for the bright flowers which decorate the houses, and the small artisans', shops with their multihued cloths, present the visitor with a vista which is almost difficult to believe. Then there is the smell of the leather used for making sandals, and the restaurants specialised in fish dishes, and the bustle of every day life...
It has a small beach, very elegant haunts, exquisite hotels and everything is de-luxe or almost so. Mass tourism is banned at Positano, which cannot welcome more tourists than it does at present, for as it is they almost bump into one another of the tiny beach bounded by rock. There is no possibility of building further, and Positano is perhaps the only resort in the world that doesn't advertise.
The colourful dwellings of Positano climb up upon the sides of the mountain and seem almost to hold each other up.And at the sunset the fishing boats take the sea with great lanterns on the bow: they fish anchovies and cuttle-fish. Then, the nightlife of Positano is absolutely unique and You cannot miss enjoying a good dish of fish in one of the restaurants on the beach. From this charming town it is easy to reach also the other famous places of the area: the National Road 163 takes to Sorrento on one side and Amalfi, Ravello, Vietri and Salerno on the other side.

Positano is not only seashore: by pleasant excursions you can visit some suggestive areas of the mountains over the town. At a distance of 3 kms. from the centre there is the hamlet of Montepertuso (Hole Mount) so named after the Virgin Mary appeared inside a hole in the mountain. From there you can climb over a stairway of 1,700 steps leading to Nocelle (Nuts). From that village it starts the renown "Sentiero degli Dei" (Gods' Way) with some wonderful views over the whole Amalfi Coast, absolutely unique and unforgettable. Or you can reach the beautiful promontory of San Pietro (st. Peter) where is the church with the same name. You can go higher and higher, up to the mountain of Sant'Angelo a Tre Pizzi (St.Angel at three peaks) where are the highest places of the coast, all over 1,400 meters.
"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched ... but are felt in the heart." Helen Keller
