If you are anything like me then you get lost everywhere you go! Take along a map of the Amalfi Coast and you should be able to make your way through unscathed! Although, there is nothing better sometimes than to meander and wander. Those are the times when you find the charming local cafe, quaint book stores, and great new friends!

Map of Ravello

Ravello, the second most popular of the Maps of the Amalfi Coast! I'll never forget that road we took...with those heart wrenching sharp turns...I am forever grateful for finding our driver, Giusseppe. He took those turns like a Professional Nascar driver!

In medieval times, this little town was one of the four Italian maritime republics. The others were Venice, Genoa and Pisa. This whole area is known as the Amalfi Coast because of the importance of the Amalfi republic. Much more than the other maritime republics, Amalfi had commercial and cultural contacts with Greeks and Saracens. The architecture around here even shows this, with obvious Moorish influence.

The sea has always been the life in Amalfi. In fact the world’s maritime rules were developed here in Amalfi. Their rules of the sea are still in use throughout the world today. We tour the cathedral with its museum of historical sacred articles. Then Marilynn watches the local women shop, begins fruit-shopping and selecting a few peaches for our lunch. None of the shopkeepers she encounters speaks any English. We learn that the locals eat the zucchini flowers, which are said to be tasty. My friend took a cooking class in Sorrento and actually learned how to deep fry the zucchini flowers and she said they were quite tasty!
