Some Fun and Interesting Amalfi Activities For You

There are many Amalfi Activities to choose from. Many visit Amalfi just for the day choosing instead to stay in the more popular Positano. Here is a sample of what you can do while in Amalfi...

Museums and Churches

The Sant`andrea Cathedral is a popular choice among the Amalfi activties. This Cathedral dates in part from the early 10th century and its facade was rebuilt twice, most recently at the end of the 19th century. the interior is mainly baroque and the alter features some fine statues and 12th century mosaics.

Chiostrol del paradise is from the 13th century and was built in Arabic style to house the tombs of the prominent citizens of amalfi.

Museo Civico is a small, one room museum located in the town hall building. this contains an ancient manuscript draft of Amalfi's maritime code, an dother historical documents.

the Arsenale is the only ship building depot of its kind in Italy.

Museo della carta(paper museum) is a short walk from town. It is housed in a paper mill dating back to the 13th century.

Near the "Cartiera Amatruda", there is the Museo dell'Agricoltura, where we can see rudimental machines and various instruments of the last four centuries. With these intruments, for century the amalphitain farmer produced the famous lemon called “sfusato amalfitano ”.

If you want a little adventure there is the Valle delle Ferriere, where you’ll find a natural Reserve (where there are some ferns as the Woodwardia Radicans). along the way, you'll find many paper mills ruins.

If you happen to be in Amalfi on a Wednesday, there's a fantastic open air market you should wander around and through. It's at the upper end of the Via delle Cartiere - named for about 20 textile mills that used to operate on or near the street.

Golf in Amalfi

The Dornoch Bed and Breakfast has the best location for golf enthusiasts! World famous Royal Dornoch is less than 300 yds from Amalfi, so in a few minutes you can enjoy all 19 holes. The Struie course is literally on the doorstep - a short iron from the garden would land you on the 16th tee, although we do not recommend that you do this. Within a few miles are the fine courses at Golspie, Brora, Bonar Bridge and Tain, all equally worthy of a mention.

Amalfi Boat Tours and Fishing

Coming soon...keep checking back :)

Some courageous locals like to fish right off the Amalfi Coast drive...right over the side of the cliff...a few hundred feet down to the water. Come and see the catch of the day!

Shopping

There are many fine ceramic shops along the piazza duomo. The Amalfi Coast is known for its beautiful ceramics. Remember to shop around for the best selection and best prices.

While here don't forget to pick up some Limoncello. It's made from the finest Amalfi Coast lemons!! Don't forget to bring some home to your friends and family too!! Vist my page on Limoncello too for more facts and history or my recipe page! YUM!

Hiking

Hiking is one of my favorite of the Amalfi activities, actually of any activity. You get to see so much you would miss if in a car or on a sidewalk. You can take your time and let nature inspire you. There are many paths and stairways that go up thru the hills behind Amalfi and up to the town of Ravello. They make for the perfect hike!!

Festivals

December 24-January 6-skin divers make their traditional pilgrimage to the ceramic crib in Grotto Dello Smeraldo.

1st Sunday in June-the Regatta of the 4 ancient maritime republics, which rotates between Venice Pisa Genoa and Amalfi is held then. Amalfi's next turn is in 2009. I plan to be there-how about you?
